Yes, it can take a beating - I used mine for traveling and it's been dunked in water, dragged through caves - it has quite a few battle-scars - but still works like new There is absolutely zero way I'd pay $500-600 for a 5D Mk II right now. They routinely sell for $250 and that's high end of the price range for one.
Of course, those are all APS-C options. But APS-C is actually a very good format for video, and quite affordable, too. If full-frame is necessary, the 5DIII will get you 60 fps at 720, but you'll need a 5DIV or a 6DII to get 1080/60. The 5DIV will also give you 120 fps at 720.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is a very satisfying all-round DSLR. It feels tough, handles quickly and delivers great-looking photos and video. Canon has pretty much addressed all the complaints of the Mark II and also included all the nice extras commonly offered by Nikon, like 100% viewfinder coverage, twin card slots, deep bracketing and an AF system packed with points.
